Florida Statute § 83.49(3)(a) governs the process for recovering a security deposit in Florida .Your landlord has 30 days from the date you vacate the property to send you a notice of intent to impose a claim on your security deposit.Your landlord must send the notice by certified mail to the forwarding address that you provided him or her with. If you did not give your landlord a forwarding address, then he or she must deliver the notice to your last known address, which most of the time is the leased property you just vacated. This is in case you provided the Post Office with your new forwarding address.
