Stictoleptura rubra is a longhorn beetle often found in pines, firs and larches in its juvenile form. Its gut contains cellulase-producing yeasts to enable xylophagy, or wood-digestion.
The larvae develop in old dead wood and tree stumps, mainly in coniferous forests. Adults visit flowers for nectar and pollen.
